I recently switched my office computer to a Mac Pro and needed to continue using some Windows software from the server and from my PC. I am using VMWare Fusion and its Converter program (free download from VMWare) allowed me to convert my PC into a virtual machine and load it in Fusion. It took a while to convert it (a couple hours for a 50 Gb) and I had to reactivate Windows and reregister Quickbooks Premier. Otherwise it has worked perfectly so far and the Windows virtual machine even has all of the glitches that existed in it that caused me to switch. However, it runs a lot faster than it did on the PC. So, now I have a mac and my previous Windows setup in one machine. If you need your current setup (PC machine) and want to switch, this is the way to go.

Great article. I too am contemplating the switch. I'm determined to do it in less than 3 years! Thanks for your insights and keep up the good work.

Randomly stumbled on your article and figured, what the hell, I'm tired why not read about a lawyer switching to mac.

I switched years and years ago (if you can call it switching) and really never looked back. I'm a fashion designer, now in Tokyo, so as far as design apps Mac is great!!!

One advice I have for you, and everyone else switching. I mean this in the kindes way, but it's sort of funny story. There's a term my brother used to say to me every day when we were little and I'd beg him to teach me how to use a computer, I never knew what it meant and neither did mother or father : RTFM. Read the f***ing manual. haha. When I found out I slapped his face but in reality it's good advice for anyone switching to Mac.

Yes, it will just work and you will be able to do lots of neat things right out of the box. But if you take the time to learn all the keyboard shortcuts you'll be absolutely amazed how awesome Mac really is compared to windows.

Just so you know-

Command Key + Up Arrow = Page Up
Command Key + Down Arrow = Page Down
Function Key + Delete = Delete (instead of backspace)

I learn automator too. It's a godsend for do little task that you have done over and over again. For example, resizing a bunch of photos for web all at once but it can be much more complex if you want. The interface is very friendly though, it's like power of programming without any language.

Try it out!!!!!!!

Also, for Sneaze-C (PC ... ^ ^ ... ) apps you mention. The ones lawyers cant get for mac you could try Parallels or Crossover. Crossover is really neat because it doesn't make you install windows!!!! Just runs many PC application, I use it everyday because one of my programs wont run for mac.

Anyway, just thought I would share and hopefully offer some useful pointers.

When things get confusing just slow it down and use the help menu or google. Trying to figure out your own way can feel triumphant but it is not always best efficiency or good for stress!!!

Drink tea!!!
