The Weekly Brief – Bloggy Edition (Wk. Ending 11/28/2009)

Welcome to your Weekly Brief from The Inspired Solo! Today’s edition is all about the blog — how to improve yours, where to host one, ways to grow traffic to them … even a little funny about how not to write them — plus a couple of posts about speaking truth and forging your own true path, and as always a link to the current edition of Blawg Review.

Due to a fairly huge secret project I’m working on for The Inspired Solo readers (which I hope to unveil this week, fingers crossed), this week’s edition is a little lighter than previous ones.  But I think there’s a good bit of value here for you to enjoy.

Blawg Review

Happy St. Andrew’s Day! This edition of Blawg Review is #240, and is currently up at Andrew Raff’s IPTAblog.

Blogging

Dee Barizo at Blog Herald writes about how post frequency improves SEO.

At Performancing.com, Andy Merrett explains “why you’re always at the mercy of free blogging platforms” like WordPress.com.

Liz Strauss at Successful Blog wants you to “stop thinking poor” and grow your business.

Learn more about speech recognition software in the blogging context from Darren Rowse at Problogger. Also at Problogger, Deb Ng provides a nice guest post about going from “mere blog” to actual business.

At Social Media Law Student, they’re starting a new series of reviews of social networking sites for lawyers. First up: Legal OnRamp. And if you want more info on social networking (ahem – besides The Inspired Solo, of course), Freelance Folder has a list of 25 blogs that cover social media subjects.

And finally, at Blogging Tips, you’ll find some amusing suggestions about how/when not to blog. My favorite: “on an empty stomach” — not only do I find my work stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey with food references as strained as my baby niece’s peas but … oh, crap … I forgot breakfast…

Psychology of Inspiration

Mike Robbins writes for Oprah.com and CNN.com about learning how to speak your own truth. (I don’t normally do this — linking to major media sites — but I really liked this one.)

Also, at Goodlife Zen, Mary Jaksch discusses a favorite coaching tool of mine: the SWOT analysis. Funny name, but it’s an incredibly powerful tool to take stock and, as Mary puts it, “reboot your life.”

That’s it for this week! Enjoy your brief, your Monday, and your week.
