Weekly Brief (Wk. Ending 5/31/2009)

Yep, it’s true – we’re changing the Friday Brief to the Weekly Brief, with a publication target date of Mondays, from here on out. Why? Because, quite frankly, it was easier. Some blogs post their best stuff on the weekends, and with my Bloglines “show last week’s posts” method, it’s all too easy to miss the good stuff. So, Monday it is.

And here they are — last week’s top contenders, with some old friends and some new ones, too. Shall we? Let’s!

Blogging and Web Presence

Copyblogger: What’s The #1 Conversion Killer in Your Copy And How [Can You] Beat It? Sonia Simone knows and tells us in this guest post.

Remarkablogger: Michael Martine discusses whether blogging can make you a better person.

Problogger: Darren Rowse must have eyes in the back of his head — I gave you four, but he’s got 21 blogging mistakes to keep at bay.

Productivity and Life/Work Hacks

Zen Habits: A Jerry Kolber guest post on 3 Ways to Get More Done With the Power of Less kind of resounds with me after the last few weeks of taking on way too much.

Another Zen Habits post: This Jonathan Mead guest post on “Things We Think But Do Not Say” is worth a read. I’m not a fan of “saying everything that pops into your head” — I’m more in agreement with The Fluent Self post (next item) on this point — but the suggestions for mindfulness practice are THE key, I’m convinced, for an inspired life, in or out of the workplace.

The Fluent Self: Havi Brooks says “To hell with transparency” and I love her for it. I’m all for transparency but I think often we biz bloggers take it too far into “naked self-revelation with absolutely NO filters”-land from time to time.

Christine Kane tells us why taking imperfect action is the perfect action to take and it’s inspiring me to drag some of these backburner projects into the light of day … maybe. OK, it’s harder than it looks.

J Angelo Racoma explores the use of Twitter as a good data mining tool for Performancing.

Lifehacker tells us all about Webnotes – give it a try and let me know if you like it. I’m getting started w/ Scrapbook, a FireFox plugin.

Robert Ambrogi threatens offers to write A Titillating Tell-All Book for Small-Firm Lawyers and I would totally buy it.

Also from Robert Ambrogi – JD Supra Unveils ‘Law Centers’ – potentially useful new way to search for stuff organized by topics and areas of interest/practice

Finally …

Because it really didn’t fit anywhere else: “Seven Reasons You Might Not Be Making Money as an SEO” was written for SEOs but read it as if it were written for your profession, for you. It was contributed by an unnamed source to YOUMoz, and then promoted to the main SEOMoz blog site because — well, it’s that good/interesting

Sheryl, thanks for the mention, I’m glad you find Remarkablogger worth recommending to your readers. :)
